Patient & Family Education

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation ensures that each patient and their caregivers receive education and training from the first day of care. Individualized patient and family education may include:

  • Encouraging participation in decision-making
  • Maximizing mobility, self-care and safe meal time practices
  • Encouraging coping mechanisms
  • Instructions on the importance of medical follow-up
  • Promotion of a healthy lifestyle with appropriate adaptation

Each service considers the patient’s diagnosis, developmental age, motivation to learn, cultural practices, spiritual beliefs, physical, cognitive and communicative limitations, emotional barriers, financial barriers and patient/family learning preferences.
