Women, Infants & Children (WIC)

Program Overview

Montefiore Medical Group’s (MMG) Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program safeguards the health of low-income women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk. The WIC Program provides supplemental services for eligible mothers, pregnant and breastfeeding women and postpartum mothers of infants and children.

Services & Eligibility

MMG’s partnership with WIC and the state of New York primarily provides low-income mothers and their children nutritious food to supplement diets, nutrition counseling, referrals and outreach to health and other social services. The program also educates the community by offering nutritional facts, coaching and breastfeeding promotion and support.

Assistance is available if you need help determining which food package best fits you and your family’s needs. If necessary, the WIC staff will speak with your healthcare provider to help you get the WIC services you need. The WIC program does not require proof of citizenship.

The requirements for WIC eligibility are:

  • You must be a pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum woman, and have an infant or children up to 5 years of age.
  • You must be a New York State resident.
  • You must show that you are at nutritional risk as determined by a WIC-certified professional authority.
  • You must show that you are within the state’s low-income guidelines OR receiving food stamps, Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
  • You may be eligible for WIC even if you no longer receive Medicaid or food stamps.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
SNAP helps low-income families supplement their grocery budget to afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being.
