What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat pain and other health conditions and to increase overall health. Research suggests that acupuncture is effective in relieving chronic pain in areas including the neck, lower back, knee, hip and joints, as well as peripheral neuropathy.
In an acupuncture therapy session, thin needles are inserted into precise locations in the body called acupoints in order to unblock or improve the flow of energy ("chi") through the body.
Studies also suggest benefits of reducing anxiety and depression and improving the quality of sleep. Acupuncture is considered a safe treatment method, with a lower risk of adverse side effects than many standard drug treatments.
