About Our Program
The Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program provides new clinicians with highly structured transitional support from the academic training environment to practice. We support the development of confidence, competence and mastery in primary care in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting.
This 12-month, full-time position is a unique employment and training opportunity for new nurse practitioners (NPs) to start their practice careers in a high-performance health system while immersed in a supportive learning environment. Upon graduation from this program, the NP fellow will work independently, providing evidence-based care to the medically underserved.
If you have any additional questions, please contact our Program Director, Kathryn Tanner, NP (ktanner@montefiore.org).

Our Mission
The mission of the Montefiore Medical Group (MMG) Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program is to expand access to primary care in the Bronx’s medically complex community clinics. By empowering new clinicians with the skills needed to provide high-quality, team-based primary care, this fellowship will advance overall health and wellness and promote positive health outcomes in the communities MMG serves.
Our Vision
We aim to graduate competent and confident NPs who provide high-performance primary care in MMG’s community healthcare clinics. Clinicians exit the program with improved job satisfaction and a solid commitment to quality care for their patients in underserved communities. We aim to graduate clinical leaders committed to improving health outcomes for the individual patients they care for and the health system in the Bronx as a whole.
Our Goals
The MMG Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program aims to:
- Decrease attrition of the primary care workforce by improving each provider’s clinical skills, confidence and job satisfaction. We give new NP providers a strong foundation of readiness from which to practice while inspiring academic and professional excellence.
- Expand access to high-quality primary care in the communities served by MMG. This Bronx-based fellowship prepares NP providers to meet the specific needs in the MMG community clinics.
- Increase the number of NPs who then serve as leaders in the field of community health. We aim to inspire our practitioners to train the next generation of NP providers, improving the quality of care and overall health conditions.
- Support competence and mastery in all domains of primary care. With a highly structured transition experience, this fellowship focuses on preparing each practitioner to proudly serve medically complex communities.
