About Our Program
The Montefiore Einstein Transplant Psychiatry team provides the highest level of intensive, expeditious, patient-centered clinical care for individuals before or after organ transplant procedures. Our experts understand the complex psychological, cognitive and emotional challenges that every patient faces before and after these procedures, and our multidisciplinary team endeavors to optimize recovery by identifying and addressing any underlying psychiatric conditions.
Our Services
A specialized transplant psychiatry consult service is available to patients before and after surgery. Our psychiatrists and psychologists are specialized and experienced in treating every challenge our patients encounter, including the specific experiences related to each organ (e.g. kidney, liver, heart, lung or pancreas). They are available for both inpatient consultation and outpatient care.
Patients who require inpatient psychiatric services are referred through the Emergency Psychiatry Department or are transferred to our units from inpatient medical or surgical services. They are then admitted to either Klau 2—a 22-bed inpatient psychiatric unit at the Moses Campus—or 7 South—a 33-bed inpatient unit at the Wakefield Campus. Both units treat patients presenting with a wide range of affective, psychotic and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Inpatient psychiatric services are available at Klau 2 at Moses Campus and 7 South at the Wakefield Campus.
Our programs are equipped to provide behavioral health services in person or via our Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant telehealth platform. Most insurance providers offer coverage for our services—please call to inquire. Additionally, multilingual or interpreter services may be available.
