Clinical Trials for Gynecologic Conditions

Research & Clinical Trials

We are leading collaborative research and spearheading numerous studies and clinical trials, including those funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), translating novel scientific discoveries into new diagnostics and treatments to help improve clinical outcomes. Through our clinical trials, our patients can access emerging technologies and innovative treatments that may otherwise be unavailable to the general public.

Our researchers actively conduct basic, translational and clinical research to advance the understanding and treatment of a wide range of gynecologic conditions—from pelvic floor disorders, sexually transmitted infections and menopausal changes to HPV detection and gynecologic cancer prevention.

Montefiore Einstein has been selected by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) as a member of the Contraceptive Clinical Trials Network (CCTN) contributing to the development of new methods of female and male contraception. We are leading innovative research and numerous clinical trials––from evaluating the efficacy and safety of a novel transdermal contraceptive delivery system and an investigational nonhormonal vaginal contraceptive to studying surgical ergonomics to prevent injury during minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and optimizing the generation of monoclonal antibodies for the prevention and treatment of herpes simplex virus (HSV) disease.

In partnership with Montefiore Einstein Urology, our researchers are also exploring the underlying mechanisms and pathophysiology of pelvic floor disorders, including bladder pain syndrome and overactive bladder.

Additionally, they are investigating the applications of telemedicine in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery, the association between frailty and pelvic floor dysfunction and the medical treatment of overactive bladder, as well as examining health disparities.

About Gynecologic Conditions

Gynecologic conditions encompass a broad range of disorders affecting the female reproductive system, including the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, and vagina. These include menstrual and hormonal disorders—such as abnormal uterine bleeding, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and menopause-related symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats—as well as benign conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, and ovarian cysts. Additional concerns include vulvar, vaginal, and sexual health disorders; sexually transmitted infections such as HPV and HIV; urinary and pelvic floor dysfunction; and broader women’s health issues, including hereditary cancer risk, breast health, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease. Many of these conditions can significantly impact a woman’s quality of life, fertility, and long-term health. Advances in diagnostic imaging, hormone-based therapies, and minimally invasive surgical techniques have significantly enhanced the ability to detect, treat, and manage these conditions with greater precision. Early diagnosis and individualized care remain essential to improving outcomes and supporting reproductive health and overall wellness at every stage of life.
