Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program

About Our Program

The Moses Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Division and the Wakefield Adult Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Montefiore Einstein provide comprehensive, individualized treatment for a wide range of mental and behavioral health conditions for adults aged 18 years and older. Additionally, adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18 and their families can access mental and behavioral health treatment through Montefiore Einstein Psychiatry Associates and at the Montefiore Einstein Moses Child Outpatient Psychiatry Division.

Compassionate, evidence-based care is delivered by licensed professionals and clinicians with extensive clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating various mental and behavioral health conditions by incorporating leading-edge and evidence-based modalities. These professionals include psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors and licensed creative arts therapists.

Specialized services are available through the Montefiore Einstein psychiatry division and Montefiore Einstein Psychiatry Associates, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a type of counseling for people who have mental health disorders that impair the ability to regulate emotions, such as borderline personality disorder. DBT is also an effective treatment for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as other mood and anxiety disorders. This type of therapy may include individual and group therapy focusing on reducing destructive behaviors. DBT teaches:

  • Healthy tools for interacting in relationships
  • Healthy ways to adapt and cope with challenges and feelings of frustration or lack of power
  • How to tolerate distress
  • Skills for regulating emotions
  • The advantages of mindfulness meditation

The Adolescent DBT Program (A-DBT) program at Montefiore Einstein offers intensive, short-term treatment for adolescents (ages 13-18) and their caregivers.

The mission of both the adult and adolescent DBT programs at Montefiore Einstein is to advance and transform the care of mental illness and behavioral health for the communities we serve, other communities nationally and globally, and future generations through excellence in clinical service, education, and research. The Wakefield and Moses campuses are community-based health centers primarily serving the Bronx and Westchester County.
