Greetings! It is my pleasure to welcome you to Montefiore Einstein Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. For over 70 years, Montefiore Einstein Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has been at the forefront of research, education and clinical innovation, fostering a deep commitment to excellence while forging strong partnerships with the vibrant communities of the Bronx and surrounding regions. Our Department is known for its uniquely warm, collaborative and dynamic culture conducive to professional flourishing and bold and creative contributions.

A Sprawling Health System

Our Department is at the heart of Montefiore Einstein, which includes 10 hospitals and over 200 ambulatory locations across the Bronx, Westchester County, the lower Hudson Valley and Manhattan. In addition, our faculty serves at key Montefiore Einstein academic affiliates beyond Montefiore Einstein, including:

• NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Medical Center
• NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx Hospital
• Bronx Psychiatric Center
• New York City Children’s Center (NYCCC)

A Legacy of Innovation

Montefiore Einstein is a national leader in public and community psychiatry, behavioral health integration and school-based mental health. Our Department has made pioneering contributions to the field, including:

• Advancing medication-assisted treatments for opioid use disorder
• Developing adolescent dialectical behavior therapy
• Conducting seminal research on clozapine in youth with psychotic disorders
• Creating the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS)
• Designing a novel behavioral health management organization
• Introducing integrated primary care services into mental health and addiction settings
• Hosting a renowned leadership conference for chief residents across North America, recently celebrating its 50th year

Our faculty includes current and past leaders of national psychiatry and psychology organizations. Our Department is continuously enriched by robust interdisciplinary collaborations with our Departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, Family and Social Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health, Neuroscience, Neurology and Neurosurgery, as well as Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Center for Transplantation.

• Montefiore Einstein Center for Children’s Mental Health, an innovative, state-of-the-art inpatient pediatric psychiatry program

Our Psychiatry Research Institute at Montefiore Einstein (PRIME) is a hub for research and mentorship, spanning basic, translational, clinical, implementation science and health services research, with funding from the National Institutes of Mental Health, National Science Foundation, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) and foundations.

National Recognition & Excellence

Montefiore Einstein Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and affiliated programs have earned prestigious local and national recognition, including:

• Designation, together with Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neuroscience, as a Montefiore Einstein Center of Excellence in the Brain Sciences
• First New York City program to be recognized with the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) Distinction in Behavioral Health Integration
• Recipient of consecutive NYS Behavioral Health Centers of Excellence awards over the first two years that this recognition has existed
