The Department of Psychiatry Residency Training Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and uses the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) ID is 4003511131. We recruit every academic year for 13 PGY-1 positions.
Eligible candidates must hold an MD or DO degree or currently be senior medical students in an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school. Our recruitment team uses a holistic review process to select applicants for interviews. Rather than relying on test scores or numerical cutoffs, we consider each candidate as a whole person. This includes their academic record, clinical experiences, personal background, life journey, and demonstrated commitment to psychiatry. We value qualities such as resilience, teamwork, leadership, intellectual curiosity, cultural humility, and dedication to service.
Standardized metrics like board scores are reviewed in context, but they are not used as screening tools or as the primary basis for interview selection. Instead, all applications are reviewed using the same rubric, ensuring a fair, consistent, and equitable process. We seek to understand how applicants’ diverse experiences, perspectives, and values will contribute to and enrich our learning community. Our goal is to identify individuals who not only have the potential to excel in training but also to grow into compassionate, skilled psychiatrists who will make meaningful contributions to the field.
Interview invitations are sent via email beginning in late October, and interviews are conducted virtually through Thalamus from late October through late January/early February. Throughout this process, we aim to provide applicants with opportunities to connect with our residents and faculty, learn about our program’s mission, and determine whether our training environment is the right fit for their career goals.
