About Our Program
The Montefiore Behavioral Health Center (MBHC) Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides intensive medication management and psychotherapy services for individuals with a range of mental health conditions who require a higher level of care. The IOP is a structured treatment option tailored for patients who are experiencing worsening mood and anxiety symptoms and need more support than traditional outpatient therapy.
Participants who enroll in the MBHC IOP benefit from ongoing medication management, including adjustments and changes depending on individual needs. Enrollment in the IOP requires individuals to participate in treatment seven or more hours per week with various therapeutic modalities that help the individual understand their mental health condition while learning coping strategies and healthy lifestyle choices.
Our Services
The IOP at Montefiore Behavioral Health Center incorporates a range of therapeutic interventions tailored for adults and adolescents. Patients engage in individual and group psychotherapy using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and creative arts therapy.
Other modalities include:
- Access to treatment-resistant depression (TRD)
- Esketamine treatment
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
- Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
Specialty tracks include bilingual services, on-site primary care services, medication management, a long-acting injectable clinic, buprenorphine maintenance treatment and naloxone kits.
Our Programs
Depending on age, prospective IOP patients may qualify for treatment with either the adult or child and adolescent tracks. The adult program is for individuals 18 and older, while the Wakefield Child and Adolescent Outpatient Division provides treatment for youth between the ages of 12 and 17.
Montefiore Behavioral Health Center: Adult Intensive Outpatient Psychiatry Program
Montefiore Behavioral Health Center’s Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a virtual program that provides intensive medication management and psychotherapy services for individuals with a range of mental health conditions and who require a higher level of care. Patients engage in both group and individual psychotherapy (CBT and DBT) as well as various specialty tracks.
Wakefield Child & Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Psychiatry Program
The Wakefield Child and Adolescent Outpatient Division offers an Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for youth between the ages of 12 and 17. This track is designed to support teens who may be struggling with emotion dysregulation, exacerbated mood or anxiety symptoms, interpersonal challenges and impulsivity. Primary caregiver participation is strongly recommended, as we aim to help both parents and their teens build skills that can help them regulate intense emotions and reduce challenging behaviors.
Child and adolescent patients attend three weekly skills groups at our clinic, which take place after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. This Program also offers a weekly virtual parenting-focused group for primary caregivers of participants, held on Wednesdays from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm. Individual psychotherapy and medication management services are tailored to each participant and may be offered on-site or virtually.
