About Our Program
The Wakefield Recovery Center is an outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP) for adults 18 years and older offered through the Montefiore Einstein Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. As part of the broad network of SATPs in the Montefiore Einstein network, the Wakefield Recovery Center provides care for individuals in the Bronx community who are suffering from opioid use disorder or have a history of substance use disorder and would like to prevent relapse. Services are also available for family members or significant others of individuals who are using drugs or alcohol and who would like assistance getting their loved one into treatment.
Compassionate, evidence-based outpatient treatment is available for a range of substance use disorders, including alcohol, cocaine, cannabis, benzodiazepines, heroin, fentanyl and other opiates. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences’ SATP programs build upon a harm reduction framework to integrate addiction medications such as methadone and buprenorphine (Suboxone®) with patient-centered, state-of-the-art supported care. Our dedicated team of addiction treatment professionals includes medical providers, mental health clinicians, peer advocates and support staff who assist our patients in developing the skills they need to reach their goals.
Over the past 40 years, the Montefiore Einstein Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences’ Division of Services for Addiction has helped thousands of men and women enter recovery and rejoin their families and communities. Through recovery, individuals are empowered to find meaning in their lives and integrate into their communities.
Our Services
Patients enrolled in the Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program at the Wakefield Recovery Center can access a wide range of treatment modalities, including:
- Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) to assist families of individuals using drugs or alcohol
- Free access to Narcan and fentanyl test strips
- Individual and group counseling
- Intensive and non-intensive treatment
- Medication for addiction treatment, including buprenorphine (Suboxone®), naltrexone, Vivitrol and others
- Opioid overdose prevention education
- Primary care services
- Psychiatry and psychotherapy
- Toxicology testing

Our programs are equipped to provide behavioral health services in person or via our Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant telehealth platform. Most insurance providers offer coverage for our services—please call to inquire. Additionally, multilingual or interpreter services may be available.
