Where Expertise and Innovation Meet Revolutionary ENT Care
Advanced Care for Every Ear, Nose & Throat Condition
Montefiore Einstein Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery is a global leader, renowned for innovation and excellence in research, education. and clinical care. With more than a century of experience and groundbreaking research, our multidisciplinary team of world-renowned doctors remains at the forefront of technology and innovation. We provide comprehensive patient-centered care for the full range of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and head and neck conditions in adults and children, tailored to the unique needs of each patient. Our team pioneered many of the otorhinolaryngological techniques used today, leading some of the world’s most advanced diagnostics and minimally invasive robotic and endoscopic treatments from transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and computer-assisted and image-guided navigation to laser surgery, microsurgery, endoscopic sinus surgery and transorbital neuroendoscopic surgery (TONES). We were among the first to establish pediatric otolaryngology as a subspecialty. As an international referral site, we take on some of the most complex and high-risk cases. Our specialization in head and neck surgery, together, with Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, puts our program as part of the elite 1% of NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S. and we are ranked in the top 1% of all U.S. hospitals for cancer care, according to U.S. News & World Report.
Having successfully performed the world’s first transoral robotic (Da Vinci) total laryngectomy, our team of specialists has unparalleled expertise in all areas of otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery. We are committed to delivering the highest-quality care using the latest, most advanced technologies and leading-edge scientific research.
Advancing Global Humanitarian Efforts
Montefiore Einstein Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery faculty and residents make a difference in the world through participation in medical outreach programs in communities where resources, services and access are limited, providing life-changing care and education for people across the globe. We are also advancing global medical education in otorhinolaryngology through hands-on skills training and simulation-based learning.
One of the first and few centers in the nation to routinely offer incisionless transorbital neuroendoscopic surgery (TONES) for minimally invasive access to very complex skull/cranial base tumors through the eye

Leaders in the Science of Otorhinolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery
We have been leading the way with groundbreaking research for more than a century and continue to advance the field with novel scientific discoveries and innovations to being the first to demonstrate the temporal relationship between oral human papillomavirus (HPV)-16 detection and the risk of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
Our physician-scientists assisted in the establishment of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), dedicated to conducting and supporting research in hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, and language and to advancing our understanding of all human communication.
We are conducting basic, translational and clinical research across our department, with a unique focus on head and neck cancer genomics, epigenetics and molecular biomarkers to predict prognosis, and disease progression. Our team has helped establish new standards of care in otorhinolaryngology, spearheading clinical trials that have led to the development of FDA-approved medications and devices. Through our numerous active clinical trials, our patients can continue to access innovative treatments that are otherwise unavailable.
State-of-the-Art Techniques & Technologies
We use the latest technology, both diagnostic and treatment-based, for the full range of ear, nose and throat conditions. Our world-renowned otorhinolaryngologists have developed and use of minimally invasive robotic surgery, endoscopic surgery and laser surgery techniques for faster recovery. As leaders in microvascular reconstructive surgery, hypoglossal nerve implantation for sleep apnea, cochlear implantation and bone-anchored hearing aids, our continued work allows us to provide the latest leading-edge surgical techniques.
We also offer access to the most advanced imaging and diagnostic technologies using AI and machine learning, virtual reality for surgical planning and training, minimally invasive image-guided biopsies, and genetic and genomic testing to help facilitate precision care plans. Our sedated pediatric auditory brainstem response testing (ABR) program is one of only a few in the tri-state area and the only program of its kind in the Bronx.

At the Forefront of Simulation-Based Training
For over a quarter of a century, we have been leading the way with medical simulation in otorhinolaryngology, pioneering advanced simulation technologies and techniques to help improve surgical skills training, patient safety and outcomes. We developed simulation models for a variety of otorhinolaryngology procedures such as endoscopic sinus surgery, myringotomy and tube placement, and TORS training using the DaVinci Skills Simulator (dVSS), and co-developed a pediatric tracheostomy emergency readiness assessment tool for in situ simulation. We are also spearheading simulation research and conducting numerous multiinstitutional simulation studies to maximize resident training and improve procedural skills.
