Costa Norte - Centro Médico Judío de Long Island - Primer año

This is a PGY-4 or a PGY-6 rotation intended to give residents a three-month plastic surgery experience at the North Shore and Long Island Jewish Medical Center campuses.

The goals of the rotation are for the residents:

  1. To participate in private practice plastic surgery that is more common at a large community teaching hospital, including cosmetic surgery, breast reconstruction and more routine pediatric plastic surgery cases.
  2. Contar con experiencia quirúrgica de alto nivel en casos de cirugía plástica.
  3. Capacidad para estar a cargo de pacientes de cirugía plástica.
  4. Estar expuesto a una amplia variedad de opiniones sobre casos quirúrgicos en cirugía plástica.

Al finalizar la rotación, los residentes deberán demostrar un enfoque investigativo y analítico ante las situaciones clínicas, así como saber aplicar las ciencias básicas y clínicamente relevantes para la disciplina.

The senior-level residents should showcompetence and expertise in:

  1. Congenital defects of the head and neck, including clefts of the lip and palate, and craniofacial surgery.
  2. Neoplasms of the head and neck, including the oropharynx, and the importance of endoscopy in the management of these cases.
  3. Craniomaxillofacial trauma, including fractures.
  4. Aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery of the head and neck, trunk, and extremities.
  5. Plastic surgery of the breast.
  6. Surgery of the hand/upper extremities.
  7. Plastic surgery of the lower extremities.
  8. Plastic surgery of congenital and acquired defects of the trunk and genitalia.
  9. Microsurgical techniques applicable to plastic surgery.
  10. Reconstruction by tissue transfer, including flaps and grafts.
  11. Surgery of benign and malignant lesions of the skin and soft tissues.
