Pharmacy Residency Programs
Montefiore Einstein’s Pharmacy Residency Programs offer rigorous, real-world training at one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers.
Our residents work across multiple Montefiore Einstein campuses in the Bronx and Westchester, gaining experience in diverse practice settings that reflect the complexity and vibrancy of the communities we serve.
As the first to offer a pharmacy residency program in New York City, Montefiore Einstein’s pharmacy residency tradition spans more than five decades. What sets our programs apart is the deep integration of pharmacy into every aspect of patient care—from inpatient units and specialty clinics, to managing infectious diseases, informatics, and research. Residents are mentored by a highly experienced team of preceptors, all of whom hold faculty appointments at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and contribute meaningfully to teaching, policy development, and system-wide initiatives.
Our postgraduate year one (PGY-1) program emphasizes clinical excellence, interprofessional collaboration, and health equity. Graduates are prepared for board certification, postgraduate year two (PGY-2) training, or advanced practice roles in clinical care, academia, and health system leadership.

PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency
Montefiore’s PGY-1 program, established in 1968, provides broad-based clinical training in both inpatient and outpatient environments. Residents rotate through core and elective experiences in cardiology, pediatrics, infectious diseases, ambulatory care, oncology, and more—while developing leadership skills in practice management and performance improvement.
PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Residency
The PGY-2 Infectious Diseases residency offers advanced training in ID pharmacotherapy, antimicrobial stewardship, and research. Residents engage with multidisciplinary consult teams, serve as precept learners, and contribute to Montefiore Einstein’s system-wide efforts to improve antimicrobial use as part of our IDSA-designated Center of Excellence.
