Founded in 1985, the Montefiore Einstein Orthodontics Residency Program has a long history of providing a high-volume, fast-paced and intellectually challenging environment that equips residents with the knowledge, skills and experience to succeed in private practice and academics. Supported by our progressive and award-winning medical center and school, our program is ideally positioned to be on the cutting edge of technology and training. Our goal is not to keep up with changing environments and landscapes but rather lead the way.

Our Residency Program provides presurgical infant orthopedics, interceptive orthodontics, comprehensive orthodontics and presurgical orthodontics to patients of all ages. As a result, our residents encounter a broad spectrum of orthodontic and craniofacial cases, from bread-and-butter orthodontics to the most intricate and challenging malocclusions and skeletal growth patterns.

Training Opportunities

Treatments rendered include nasoalveolar molding, Phase 1 presurgical orthodontics and distraction osteogenesis.
  • Recipient of multi-year grant awards from myFace, the National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction (funds free healthcare to individuals with cleft lip/palate)
  • Optional National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsored master’s program with Albert Einstein College of Medicine
  • Conferences attended throughout the year include the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO), American Cleft Palate -Craniofacial Association (ACPA), Clear Aligner Advanced Residency Education (CAARE), Northeastern Society of Orthodontists (NESO), Graduate Orthodontics Residency Program (GORP), Orthopearls, ADA Forsyth, New York Center for Orthognathic and Maxillofacial Surgery (NYCOMS) and more.
  • Mandatory research project to be completed by the end of the third year, poster presentations at regional and international conferences and manuscripts submitted for publication
  • Research collaborations with experts in the fields of genetics, biomaterials, computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and 3D imaging.

El Programa de Residencia en Ortodoncia de Montefiore está diseñado para cumplir con todos los requisitos de certificación del Consejo Americano de Ortodoncia (ABOD). El programa brinda a los residentes experiencia clínica, didáctica y hospitalaria a nivel postdoctoral. Esta formación avanzada en ciencias biológicas y clínicas especializadas se obtiene mediante una combinación de experiencia clínica, conferencias, seminarios y prácticas de laboratorio, integradas con diversos tipos de maloclusiones tratadas con diferentes modalidades terapéuticas.

Para obtener un certificado en Ortodoncia, el residente debe:

  • Completar el programa de 36 meses de formación clínica, cursos teóricos y prácticas de laboratorio.
  • Completar satisfactoriamente todos los cursos.
  • Presente cuatro informes de casos completos de acuerdo con los estándares de la Junta Estadounidense de Ortodoncia.
  • Aprobar un examen oral simulado, similar al examen de certificación de la Junta Estadounidense de Ortodoncia.
  • Inscríbase y realice el examen escrito de la Fase II de la Junta Estadounidense de Ortodoncia durante el segundo año de residencia.
  • Presentar y defender un proyecto de investigación basado en una hipótesis antes de que finalice el tercer año.
  • Deberá asistir al menos durante el horario laboral establecido para el programa (de 8:00 a 17:00, de lunes a viernes) y a todas las actividades programadas.

Nuestra investigación

Faculty and residents within the Division of Orthodontics collaborate closely with other departments within the Montefiore Einstein Health System. Clinical translational research encompasses the various orthodontic subspecialties and is expertly supported by colleagues at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Department of Epidemiology and Population Health. Inter-institutional and practice network collaborations supplement the portfolio of research projects and position the Division of Orthodontics to ideally study the effectiveness and safety of new procedures, devices and technologies with the ultimate goal of advancing orthodontics and cleft/craniofacial orthopedics across the following research pillars:
