Our board-certified surgeons are dedicated to the diagnosis and management of foot-related disorders. Using innovative treatments and cutting-edge surgical solutions, our podiatrists provide specialized care for a wide array of conditions relating to the feet, from common ailments to complex deformities.
As an academic health system, we are committed to the treatment and study of conditions impacting the foot. We are constantly striving to develop novel, innovative techniques for the advancement of care within our own health system and beyond.
The experience of our patients and their loved ones—not simply their ailments—demands our full attention. Your dedicated care team will be there to discuss your condition, answer questions, assess treatment options and develop a treatment strategy that is best for you.
Though widely common, disorders of the foot can be the cause of discomfort and disability, interfering with normal ambulatory function, the activities of daily living and even employment. At Montefiore Einstein, we believe that optimal outcomes are achieved through thorough evaluation, accurate diagnosis and an intelligent, patient-specific treatment strategy. Our goal is to provide patients with best-in-class care in an empathetic and compassionate environment.
Our status as an academic health system puts us at the forefront of our field. Together with our Albert Einstein College of Medicine, one of the highest NIH-funded institutions in the country, we are continually conducting research with the goal of discovering better treatment options for our patients. We routinely present our research findings and publish our study results in peer-reviewed publications.

Advanced Podiatric Treatments We Offer
While the majority of conditions affecting the foot can be treated routinely and nonoperatively, in cases requiring more specialized care, surgery can provide reproducible and robust results. Our team offers patients a wide spectrum of techniques designed to decrease pain, improve function, minimize surgical discomfort and shorten recovery time. A few of the most common procedures we offer include:
A bunion is a bony prominence located at the base of the big toe. It is generally accompanied by angulation or malalignment of the bones, which can lead to swelling, pain, blistering, redness and difficulty with shoe wear. Although many bunions do not require surgery, sometimes surgery is necessary.
Minimally invasive bunion surgery can be used in cases of mild to moderate bunion deformities. The procedure employs a small incision, a single bone cut and a single pin to keep the realigned bone in place. The pin remains in place for four weeks, after which it is removed easily and without pain. When appropriate, this approach benefits from a smaller resulting scar than other procedures, temporary fixation and faster healing.
This surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure. Patients are seen in the office for routine postoperative care. The duration of healing is patient-specific and determined on a case-by-case basis.

Although many bunions do not require surgery, sometimes surgery is necessary.
Lapidus arthrodesis is a surgical procedure designed for complex bunions in which a minimally invasive correction is insufficient and a more involved intervention is needed. This surgery involves fusing the tarsometatarsal joint (composed of the medial cuneiform bone and first metatarsal bone) to achieve stability and decrease pain. By using strong, cutting-edge implants, patients can resume activities like weight-bearing and walking in less time.

The Tenex Health TX® procedure is an FDA-approved, minimally invasive technology designed to treat painful chronic conditions, such as tendinopathy or plantar fasciitis. Damaged tissue is first identified using ultrasound technology. Ultrasonic energy is then employed to treat the damaged tissue, improving pain and helping patients resume normal activities.
This is performed as an outpatient procedure that often does not require general sedation. Recovery time is much shorter compared to similar procedures. Patients are usually back on their feet two to four weeks after surgery and can return to normal activities six to eight weeks after surgery.
Dislocated toe joints often occur in patients who have unstable or overlapping hammer toes. This is often related to inflammation, partial tearing or complete rupture of the plantar plate, which is the band of tissue supporting the undersurface of the toes. While some dislocations can be managed conservatively, there are other instances in which surgery offers the best results.
Dislocated toe joint surgery employs innovative surgical techniques, cutting-edge hardware and state-of-the-art FiberWire® suture techniques, all of which help reduce recovery time and get patients back to regular activities faster. We constantly aim to stay abreast of the latest emerging concepts, devices and products to ensure optimal results for patients.

Hammer toes are contractions of the toes. Often, this condition can have a significant impact on a patient’s function and quality of life. While nonoperative techniques like padding, strapping and footwear modification are often helpful, sometimes surgery is required to achieve more durable results.
Operative treatment options include absorbable devices that eventually incorporate into surrounding bone, as well as state-of-the-art fixation systems, such as Smart Toe© or StayFuse™ implants. Surgical planning is tailored to each patient and their specific needs.
Regardless of the technique used, our goal is to achieve a well-aligned toe, allowing for better functionality, pain relief and early return to activity. The duration of healing is patient-specific and determined on a case-by-case basis.
