Adult Reconstruction Fellowship

Our Adult Reconstruction Fellowship offers exceptional training in all aspects of adult reconstruction. Fellows participate regularly in cases with our fellowship-trained surgeons who are board certified in adult reconstruction surgery, providing extensive hands-on experience. We perform approximately 1,800 total joint replacements per year among seven fellowship-trained adult reconstruction surgeons. Over the course of their fellowship year, trainees participate in roughly 500 to 600 cases.

As an advanced academic health system and referral center, Montefiore Einstein helps fellows gain ample experience in primary and revision total joint arthroplasty, including complex cases such as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), periprosthetic joint infection, fracture and severe deformity (congenital, acquired and post-traumatic).

Curriculum

Our fellows are trained in a variety of surgical approaches for total hip arthroplasty, including posterolateral, anterolateral and direct anterior. Fellows also have the opportunity to train in hip preservation, if interested. Responsibilities in the operating room advance progressively and are based on a fellow’s demonstration of the requisite skills. Fellows also attend biweekly lectures.

Research

As part of the curriculum, fellows are required to complete up to two research projects, culminating in a publishable manuscript. Fellows are also responsible for teaching and supervising residents and medical students during their training.
