Montefiore Einstein 3D Lab
In under a decade, various 3D imaging applications have emerged with the potential to change delivery of personalized medical care. Surgeons now have the ability to print 3D, patient-specific models to help improve patient education, preoperative planning, and intraoperative decision making. Montefiore physicians Dr. Evan Garfein and Dr. Oren Tepper have pioneered the use of this technology in reconstructive plastic surgery, including cases such as mandible reconstruction, facial trauma, and other complex procedures.
To establish Montefiore further as a leader in the use of medical 3D imaging and modeling, Drs. Garfein and Tepper established the Montefiore Einstein 3D Laboratory in 2017. Since then, surgeons from multiple sub-specialties have adopted this translational technology, using it to create innovative and novel solutions to complex clinical problems. Over the next year, Drs. Garfein and Tepper wish to expand on this early work by outfitting the 3D Lab with the equipment and infrastructure it needs to advance clinical care, education, and research throughout Montefiore Einstein’s expanding system.
