Prosthodontics Residency Program

Accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) and its Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), the 36-month Prosthodontics Residency Program of the Montefiore Einstein’s Department of Dentistry provides dental residents with a broad spectrum of didactic, clinical and laboratory experiences in all aspects of prosthodontics.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are conferred a certificate in prosthodontics, educationally qualified and board-eligible to take the American Board of Prosthodontics’ board-certifying examination. Graduates from our Program are successful private practitioners, with some going on to subspecialize in maxillofacial prosthetics and surgical implant dentistry.

Program Details

The Division of Prosthodontics is well-equipped with current technology to ensure our residents are trained with state-of-the-art practices that enhance patient care outcomes. Residents will get experience with intraoral scanners, computer-aided design (CAD) and implant planning software, jaw tracking devices, 3D printers and analog dental laboratory procedures.

The curriculum covers extensive exposure, both didactically and clinically, in the following areas:

  • Aesthetic dentistry
  • Fixed prosthodontics
  • Full-mouth rehabilitations
  • Implant prosthodontics (surgical and restorative)
  • Maxillofacial prosthetics
  • Removable prosthodontics

Prosthodontic residents also take standard introductory science courses with the other dental specialty residents. They attend craniofacial conferences with a range of hospital specialties, such as plastic surgery, otorhinolaryngologist and speech pathology.

Our Research

The Division of Prosthodontics in the Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery aligns with Montefiore Einstein’s vision and values and is dedicated to advancing the field of prosthodontics through innovative, cutting-edge research. Our research efforts focus on various critical areas, including evaluating new dental materials, with particular emphasis on 3D printing technologies, bonding agents and composite materials.

In addition to dental materials research, our Division is actively involved in clinical research, exploring advancements in both medical and dental education. This research seeks to enhance the training and clinical skills of future dental professionals, ensuring that they are equipped with the knowledge and experience to meet the evolving demands of patient care.

Through our interdisciplinary research initiatives, we strive to push the boundaries of prosthodontic practice, translating scientific discoveries into tangible benefits for both patients and the broader dental community.
