General Dental Care

The periodontics team at the Montefiore Einstein Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery focuses on treating and managing the support tissues of the oral cavity. This care consists of nonsurgical treatment—scaling and root planing, local antibiotic application—and surgical treatment—periodontal flap procedures with and without bone augmentation, gingival graft procedures and frenectomy procedures pre- and post-orthodontic treatment. Periodontal maintenance services are provided in conjunction with the Hygiene Division.

The Montefiore Einstein Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery also treats temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and facial pain. Our expert team creates treatment plans that alleviate discomfort, improve joint function and reduce inflammation associated with TMJ.

Management of temporomandibular disorders is a multispeciality endeavor that includes our oral surgery, prosthodontic and orthodontic teams. This multidisciplinary approach is designed to provide patients with individualized treatment plans ranging from conservative therapies to more advanced interventions, depending on the underlying cause, severity of symptoms and response to initial treatments.

Our endodontics team at the Montefiore Einstein Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery comprises specialists who focus on treating the inside of the tooth to save it from extraction. The primary treatment is root canal therapy, which removes the diseased tissue within the canal system. In some cases where nonsurgical endodontic therapy cannot save the tooth, surgery— an apicoectomy—may be needed. Our endodontists specialize in treating fractured or chipped teeth, dislodged teeth, avulsed teeth and root fractures.
