About Our Program
Opening in 1967 as part of the Montefiore Einstein Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the Montefiore Behavioral Health Center (MBHC) has provided mental health programs to the Bronx for over 65 years. With two locations in the Bronx, one at Westchester Square and the other at Washington Avenue, our outpatient programs provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art treatment for a wide range of mental and behavioral health conditions in adults. The core mission of MBHC is to increase access to behavioral healthcare services in the Bronx and to heal, teach, discover and advance the health of the communities we serve.
MBHC is the proud recipient of the American Psychiatric Association Gold Award (2022), the Community Psychiatry Fellowship and the Community Psychiatry Rotation. Additionally, members of our Department of Psychiatry have received awards for Clinical Excellence (2021 and 2023), Exceptional Citizenship (2022) and Quinnipiac’s Holistic Nursing.
Compassionate, evidence-based care is delivered by licensed professionals and clinicians with extensive clinical expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of mental and behavioral health conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, schizophrenia and psychotic disorders, trauma and stressor-related disorders, personality disorders, sleep-wake disorders, and reproductive psychiatry.
The MBHC team provides specialized, patient-centered, psychiatric clinical care to adults 18 and older. These professionals include psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors and licensed creative arts therapists.
Our Services
Our Montefiore Behavioral Health Center (MBHC) community-focused clinics at Westchester Square and Washington Avenue strive to maintain open access to services for mental health, primary care and substance use disorders. MBHC is one of the largest outpatient psychiatry programs in the Bronx, providing a range of specialty programs at both locations, such as:
- Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations
- Buprenorphine (Suboxone®) management
- Esketamine
- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
- Group therapy
- Individual psychotherapy
- Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
- Long-acting injectable services (for severe persistent mental illness and alcohol use disorder)
- Narcan distribution
- Neuropsychological testing and evaluation
- Neurostimulation treatments
- Onsite addiction psychiatry
- Primary care adult medicine
- Transcranial magnetic stimulation (for treatment-resistant depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder)
Established in 2022, Montefiore Behavioral Health Center at Washington Avenue is the newest Community Mental Health Center in Montefiore Einstein’s Department of Psychiatry. The clinic has been tasked with providing the community with an open-access process.
