PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Program
Montefiore Einstein’s postgraduate year two (PGY-2) Infectious Diseases (ID) Pharmacy Residency Program is a one-year program intended to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy education and postgraduate year one (PGY-1) pharmacy residency programs, building vital skills for clinical pharmacists across specialized practice areas.
PGY-2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge, and incorporating both into patient care.
Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY-2 ID pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care and academic or other specialized positions, along with board certification in infectious diseases (BCIDP).
Program Overview
The PGY-2 ID Pharmacy Residency Program is a 12-month structured training program with a focus on infectious diseases. The Program consists of core and elective learning experiences delivered longitudinally, in four-week blocks throughout the residency.
PGY-2 residents will develop understanding and skills in infectious disease pharmacotherapy through participation in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and clinical activities with the Infectious Diseases consult services.
PGY-2 residents will also engage in research and performance improvement projects. They will gain time management skills in adhering to a research timeline, creating an appropriate study design and methodology, completing data collection and analysis, submitting/presenting abstracts at national or regional conferences and publishing research findings.
In addition, residents will build on practice management and leadership skills through administrative functions. They’ll have multiple opportunities to precept and teach pharmacy residents and/or students and to participate in educational activities.
