Application Process

For those seeking residency or fellowship positions at Montefiore Einstein, we recommend contacting the coordinator of the program you’re interested in. Find contact details for each program on the individual program page.

Our admissions decisions take into account a range of factors, including academic performance, board scores, relevant experience and personal attributes like motivation and integrity. Montefiore Einstein is committed to inclusivity and does not discriminate based on age, race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, disability, veteran status, gender, sexual orientation or gender identity. When possible, our programs participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), which uses a universally recognized mathematical algorithm to fairly match applicants with residency programs based on mutual preferences, ensuring unbiased pairings.

Application Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for residency or fellowship programs at Montefiore Einstein, applicants must meet the requirements set by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our eligibility criteria for these programs are as follows:

  1. Graduates from medical schools in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
  2. Graduates from U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)

For graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada, the following qualifications apply:

  1. Possession of a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction
  2. Graduation from a medical school outside the United States with completion of a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school
  3. U.S. citizenship, permanent residency or a J-1 visa with authorization for training in the United States during the term of the appointment

Please note, per New York State Department of Health regulations, non-LCME-accredited international medical school graduates are restricted from participating in New York state residency programs if their training outside the medical school’s country included more than 12 weeks of clinical clerkships, unless approved by the New York State Education Department.

The Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS) serves as a centralized online platform for applicants to submit their residency and fellowship applications and accompanying documents. Streamlining the process for all parties involved, including dean’s offices and recommendation authors, ERAS ensures a seamless and efficient distribution of applications and related materials to programs.
