About Our Program
The Montefiore Einstein outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is designed to address the needs of patients requiring a comprehensive, structured and carefully monitored approach to lung health recovery, which begins during hospitalization and continues at home. Our patient-centered recovery strategy helps each individual gain a deeper understanding of their condition, learn how to manage it, enhance their ability to perform daily tasks, improve overall health, regain strength and reduce the risk of future pulmonary conditions.
Our team of specialists includes expert physicians who are board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. We treat the full spectrum of pulmonary conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, cystic fibrosis (CF), interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), bronchiectasis, pulmonary hypertension, pre- and post-lung transplant surgery, post-thoracic surgery, respiratory failure, neuromuscular diseases that impact breathing, occupational or environmental lung disease and post-COVID lung damage. Exercise physiologists supervise all sessions to develop a long-term maintenance program that promotes optimal recovery and long-term health.
Montefiore Einstein is ranked in the top 1% of all hospitals in the nation for pulmonology and lung surgery according to U.S. News & World Report. Our team of experts employs state-of-the-art treatments and innovative approaches to help each patient recover and lead active, productive lives.
Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Therapy Services
Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation team uses comprehensive, cutting-edge resources to support recovery, including advanced monitoring and specialized exercise equipment to improve overall conditioning. The Program typically consists of 18 to 36 sessions over three months, averaging two sessions per week.
Over the course of the rehabilitation program, we closely monitor each patient’s progress and provide regular updates to the patient and their treating physicians to ensure ongoing improvement. Our experts deliver comprehensive support at every stage of rehabilitation and recovery.
We also offer the following services to complement and accelerate recovery:
Nutritional Education
We provide informal guidance on nutrition to help patients make better food choices that reduce fat, sodium and cholesterol while maintaining a healthy weight and optimizing recovery.
Lifestyle Counseling
Our team understands that managing pulmonary disease may require significant changes in attitudes and lifestyle. We assist in developing techniques to address fatigue, anxiety and stress while minimizing risk factors for further exacerbations or disease progression.
