Acerca del cáncer colorrectal
El cáncer colorrectal es un tipo de cáncer que se origina en el colon o el recto, que forman parte del intestino grueso. Ocurre cuando las células de esta zona crecen sin control. La mayoría de los cánceres colorrectales comienzan como pequeños crecimientos llamados pólipos que pueden convertirse en cáncer con el tiempo. El tipo más común es el adenocarcinoma, que se origina en las células que producen moco dentro del colon o el recto. Otros tipos menos comunes incluyen el linfoma, que se origina en las células inmunitarias; los tumores carcinoides, que se originan en las células productoras de hormonas; y los tumores del estroma gastrointestinal (GIST), que se forman en la pared intestinal.
