Jeffrey M. Weiss, MD, is Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer at Montefiore Einstein and Professor, Department of Medicine (General Internal Medicine) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Weiss has had a long and distinguished career as a senior physician leader at Montefiore Einstein where he now leads system-wide efforts to advance clinical quality and performance.

In his current role, Dr. Weiss provides executive oversight for Quality and Safety, Graduate Medical Education, the Clinical Research and Trials offices and Medical Affairs, and he chairs the Medical Executive Committee.  Dr. Weiss also directs a team of hospital-based Medical Directors, driving physician alignment and fostering an integrated approach to clinical quality, operational performance, strategy, growth and innovation across the system. As part of this, he has been the executive sponsor and an architect of Montefiore’s transitional care and readmission reduction efforts, yielding innovative care delivery solutions for Montefiore’s most vulnerable patients with dramatic reductions in readmission rates. 

A strong advocate for leadership development and clinician well-being, Dr. Weiss leads Montefiore’s provider leadership and resilience initiatives. As part of these efforts, he founded and continues to guide the maturation of Montefiore’s Physician Leadership Academy as a model professional development program for emerging physician leaders.

Dr. Weiss has garnered a national reputation for his contributions in clinical leadership and patient safety. His work in disseminating Just Culture principles, including development of the Just Culture Tool, has been recognized by The Joint Commission as a leading institutional practice.    

Dr. Weiss received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his MD from Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency and chief residency at Montefiore Medical Center before joining the faculty as an attending. He continues to maintain a clinical practice.
