Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation

About Our Program

The Montefiore Einstein Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to improve the cardiovascular or pulmonary health of those who have experienced heart or lung emergencies, conditions or surgeries through exercise, nutrition and other lifestyle changes.

Recovery from a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack, angioplasty, bypass or heart valve surgery begins while the individual is hospitalized and continues after discharge. Our team of rehabilitation experts includes exercise physiologists, nurses, psychologists and nutritionists who coordinate with your cardiologist and primary care physician to achieve the best outcomes possible.

The most valuable benefit of our Outpatient Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is an improvement in your health. Cardiac rehabilitation also lowers risk factors such as high blood pressure, excess weight, elevated blood sugar and high cholesterol, which can, in turn, result in a vast improvement in overall quality of life.

Our Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services

The Montefiore Einstein Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation team utilizes state-of-the-art monitoring and exercise equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, rowers and other specialized machines, to exercise the whole body, achieve overall conditioning and optimize recovery.

We carefully track your progress throughout the Program and report detailed updates to you and your referring physician. Other key components of the Program include:

  • Nutritional education: Informal guidance about nutrition can help you make healthier food choices, reduce fat, sodium and cholesterol, and lose weight when indicated.
  • Lifestyle counseling: Our team understands that managing cardiovascular disease often requires significant lifestyle changes. We’ll develop techniques to manage fatigue, anxiety and stress and give you a new perspective on taking care of yourself and minimizing risk factors for further disease.
  • Emotional support: It is common for patients to experience depression and fear after a cardiovascular event. We provide continuous support to address these issues and ensure that you are not alone in your recovery process.

Your Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team

Our multidisciplinary team, dedicated to providing you with comprehensive and personalized care, comprises highly skilled exercise physiologists, registered nurses, licensed psychologists and registered dietitians working in close collaboration with your cardiologist and primary care physician to develop a tailored treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and optimizes your overall well-being.
