What Is a Knee Injury?
The knee is one of the body’s most complex and heavily used joints. Knees are particularly vulnerable to injuries caused by sports, falls, accidents and overuse. A knee injury is any damage to the structures comprising the knee joint, including bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons or muscles.
Knee injuries can be categorized as acute (caused by a fall, direct blow or abnormal twisting or bending) or chronic (resulting from overuse, repetitive activities or prolonged pressure on the knee). Symptoms of knee injuries include inflammation, numbness, weakness and a tingling sensation.
The Montefiore Einstein Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation will create a custom recovery plan for your specific diagnosis.
