About Our Program

Many conditions and illnesses, such as osteoporosis, pelvic floor dysfunction and female-specific cancer, present differently in women. The Women’s Health Rehabilitation Program at Montefiore Einstein addresses female-specific rehabilitation needs, focusing on the unique physiology of women.

Our renowned team of physiatrists and physical therapists, with specialized training in pelvic floor anatomy and women’s health, collaborates with additional specialty teams that include gynecologists, gynecologic oncologists, urologists, urogynecologists and pain management specialists.

This interdisciplinary team can create an individualized course of treatment to strengthen muscles, improve musculoskeletal function and restore normal daily function for women living with a range of conditions, including osteoporosis, breast cancer, gynecological malignancies, lymphedema, lipedema and pelvic floor dysfunction. Our specialists apply newly emerging scientific discoveries in the field of women’s health rehabilitation, altering the course of the condition, restoring function and optimizing quality of life.

Our Women’s Health Rehabilitation Services

The Montefiore Einstein Women’s Health Rehabilitation services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team that conducts comprehensive evaluations and implements  personalized treatment plans that may include:

  • Biomechanical and musculoskeletal evaluation of the pelvis and lower back
  • Neuromuscular re-education
  • Pelvic floor muscle training with biofeedback and electrical stimulation
  • Education on pelvic floor function and different techniques of pelvic floor muscle training
  • Pelvic floor muscle strengthening exercises to help decrease urinary urgency symptoms, incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse
  • Other therapeutic strategies to improve muscle tone and decrease pain, including relaxation and breathing techniques
