Pediatric Rehabilitation Fellowship

Montefiore-Einstein Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Fellowship is a two-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited program. One position is available each year to Board-Certified/Board-Eligible candidates trained in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, fellows can be granted eligibility for the Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine subspecialty boards.

Fellows will have ongoing clinical exposure to outpatient pediatric rehabilitation clinics at Montefiore and the Rose F. Kennedy Center/CERC; consultation services at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and inpatient pediatric rehabilitation. In addition, fellows will have scheduled rotations in pediatric neurology, rheumatology, orthopedics, neonatology, and pediatric clinics for medically complex children. There is a strong exposure to child development as CERC also has a fellowship in Developmental Pediatrics. The fellow will also have hands-on opportunities to further develop their spasticity management and pediatric EMG skills.

The fellow will have adequate designated research time and participates in a structured pediatric research design course throughout the two years. Fellows work closely with the PM&R core program residents with ample teaching and lecturing opportunities. Attendance at national/international conferences is encouraged. In addition, each fellow has one month of elective time, as well as opportunities to participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp and the Special Olympics programs.

Demographically, there are 1.5 million residents in the Bronx. It is the most ethnically and racially diverse area in the United States. Of those residents, 10% under age 65 are living with a disability. Fourteen percent of the population is uninsured and 31% live below poverty level. Our fellows participate in comprehensive clinical activities delivered across this wide range of socioeconomic strata. Much of our emphasis is on inner-city, historically underserved populations. These populations have limited access to healthcare and social services, with limited language skills and economic support. Our fellows are trained to identify health care disparities and help families gain access to available resources.

Our PRM program values comprehensive clinical care with an emphasis on teamwork, compassion and integrity. Our PRM program also strives to provide fellows with an environment that fosters personal development, academic growth and personal fulfillment during their training.
