Advanced Treatments
During septal myectomy, a surgeon removes excess muscle from the thickened septum. This allows the blood to empty from the ventricle more easily. Another option for treating cardiomyopathy, alcohol septal ablation, involves an injection of alcohol into a blood vessel in the ventricular septum.
A PFO closure is a structural heart disease treatment to close a small hole called a foramen ovale between the upper two heart chambers (atria).
