Vision Rehabilitation
Vision problems that can’t be corrected by ordinary eyeglasses, contact lenses or surgery, seriously undermine everyday functions. We can help.
Our physiatrists provide expert assessment and rehabilitation for patients with conditions ranging from mild and moderate to total or functional blindness. For older adults, visual problems often exist with other medical conditions such as:
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injury
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Peripheral arterial disease
Our physiatrists help our patients adjust pragmatically and psychologically to their impairment, build their daily-living skills and develop new ways to perform normal activities.
Our occupational therapy staff will also work with you to maximize your strength and dexterity and enable you to successfully undertake routine tasks. When necessary, our team will refer you to The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.
We also refer patients to Lighthouse Guild International, a comprehensive Manhattan-based facility that provides specialized vision rehabilitation treatments for mobility, self-care, and use of low vision aids.
