Vestibular Rehabilitation
Dizziness, vertigo and other problems related to balance and inner ear dysfunction can cause profound negative effects on a person's safety and daily life. Our vestibular specialists offer rehabilitative treatment for conditions—such as diabetes, aging, migraines, traumatic brain injury and stroke—that can disturb inner ear function.
Our goal is to improve patients’ ability to engage in everyday activities without the anxiety, discomfort and physical risks that inner ear complications can produce, including:
- A repeated sense of imbalance
- Frequent, often unexplained falls
- The need to hold onto objects when walking
- Blurry vision that accompanies head movements
- Neck stiffness and pain
Individualized Treatment Plans To Help You Get Better
No two rehabilitation treatment plans are exactly alike. After a comprehensive evaluation, our physiatrists and physical therapists will develop an individualized regimen that may include:
- Compensation strategies
- Exercises to improve your balance
- Canalith repositioning treatment (CRT) for Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), a common cause of vertigo
- Gaze stabilization exercises
Vestibular rehabilitation is highly successful when conducted by an expert. In many instances, this therapy is the only treatment that you will need. After treatment, many patients experience improved balance, coordination and body strength; a decreased risk of falling; a return to your previous level of movement and function; increased stability; and less dizziness.
