Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
Several of our physiatrists are trained in the techniques of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM). OMM – also called Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)—is a form of manual medicine where the practitioner uses his or her hands to manipulate the patient’s bones, muscles and other body tissues to help to alleviate pain and enhance overall health.
Pain Relief For A Wide Range of Conditions
Our specialists offer OMM for symptomatic relief of a variety of diseases, conditions and injuries that may be causing you discomfort, including but not limited to:
- Myofascial pain, including fibromyalgia
- Headaches
- Back and neck pain
- Sciatica
- Chronic pain
- Pregnancy related pain
- Sacroiliac dysfunction
- Costrochondritis (rib pain)
- Frozen Shoulder
OMM is a form of alternative medicine. Practitioners may have gone to an Osteopathic medical school and therefore have the degree of Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or may have taken courses to learn OMM after medical school (physicians with the degree MD).
