About Our Specialty Programs
The Montefiore Einstein Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has been at the forefront of developing an array of unique programs that bring together leading psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, geriatric psychiatry nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors and licensed creative arts therapists to deliver innovative, compassionate and evidence-based care for the full spectrum of mental health disorders and addiction issues.
Our mission is to advance and transform the care of mental illness and behavioral health for the communities we serve, other communities nationally and globally and for future generations through excellence in clinical service, education and research.
Our Specialty Programs
Ambulatory Consultation, Urgent Treatment and Evaluation (ACUTE) Psychiatry
ACUTE provides behavioral health urgent care services, psychiatric specialty consultations, geriatric psychiatry and behavioral health evaluations, letters of support for bariatric surgery and psychiatric services for patients not yet enrolled in the Department’s outpatient clinics.
Arts & Integrative Medicine (AIM)
AIM combines integrative medicine with creative arts therapy facilitated by licensed mental health professionals. It uses innovative practices to help adults and children achieve developmental, behavioral, mental and physical health goals.
Child & Adolescent Anxiety and Mood Program
The Anxiety and Mood Program (AMP) at the Moses Child Outpatient Psychiatry Division offers evidence-based interventions for youth with primary and comorbid anxiety, trauma, mood and other related disorders.
Comprehensive Brain Health Center
This Center brings together leading board certified physicians in the fields of neurology, neurological surgery, psychiatry and allied neuroscience disciplines, along with the most advanced technological modalities, to greatly enhance clinical diagnosis and treatment of nervous system disorders at a single location.
Connecting and Reflecting Experience (CARE) Program
As a community-focused and research-driven program, the CARE Program at Montefiore Einstein combines methods from attachment theory and developmental psychopathology for children aged 6 to 18. CARE has been found to reduce parenting stress, improve caregiver reflective functioning and strengthen youth-reported attachment security.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program
This program provides dialectical behavior therapy for adults with behavioral and affect dysregulation. Individuals participating in the Program may be diagnosed with a range of disorders, including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma and stress-related disorders and substance use disorders.
Eating Disorders Program at Montefiore Einstein (EDPM)
This collaborative effort between the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) and Child Psychiatry cares for patients with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and sub-threshold disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Neuromodulation & Novel Therapeutics Program
This Program features emerging treatments, such as esketamine for acute and treatment-resistant depression, as well as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
First Episode Psychosis/OnTrackNY Program
OnTrackNY supports the well-being of young people who are impacted by unexpected changes in their thinking and perceptions and who have been diagnosed with newly emergent non-affective psychotic disorders.
Geriatric Psychiatry
Our Geriatric Psychiatry Department provides specialty services for older adults experiencing behavioral health issues. We excel in delivering collaborative care across community-based agencies that are sensitive to the increasing number of older adults.
Neuropsychological Assessment Service
Our neuropsychological evaluations evaluate how an individual’s brain functions, which can provide information about the brain's structural and functional integrity. This testing may be requested for various reasons: to confirm a diagnosis, to determine cognitive strengths and weaknesses and help to determine treatment plans or other interventions.
AMFAST (Attention, Memory & Frontal Abilities Screening Test)
The AMFAST is a novel,10-minute, paper-and-pencil screening test specifically designed to assess for the presence of attention, processing speed, memory and/or executive functioning deficits in individuals age 8 and older.
ATLAS (Attention & Learning Assessment Service)
ATLAS offers a range of services to assess intellectual, academic, emotional, behavioral and neuropsychological functioning. These comprehensive evaluations help clarify attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) diagnoses and serve to determine eligibility for educational interventions, classroom accommodations or workplace adjustments.
Perinatal Psychiatry
Perinatal Psychiatry provides diagnosis, diagnostic clarification, medication management, and support in discharge planning for perinatal patients with acute psychiatric complaints. Our inpatient Perinatal Psychiatry Consult Service offers proactive and reactive consultations to pregnant and postpartum women admitted to the Jack D. Weiler Hospital.
THRIVE (Trauma Healing & Resilience in Vulnerable Environments)
Dedicated to providing evidence-based therapy for trauma-related disorders, THRIVE offers psychotherapy for patients aged 18-64 who are seeking treatment for trauma-related distress, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, interpersonal violence, and exposure to disasters.
Sports Mental Health & Performance Institute
Our Sports Mental Health & Performance Institute promotes the mental well-being of athletes at all levels––from high school to Olympic and professional sports––with a comprehensive approach that combines evidence-based clinical services for athletes, mental health research, clinical training for the next generation of sports mental health practitioners and advocacy for greater mental health awareness across sports.
