About Our Program
Montefiore Einstein provides comprehensive emergency psychiatric services for patients who present to the emergency departments at Moses Campus, Wakefield Campus or Jack D. Weiler Hospital. This specialized mental health care is designed to stabilize patients who require immediate psychiatric intervention.
Once a patient is admitted to a Montefiore Einstein emergency department and is determined to be experiencing acute distress, our team of experts is available to ensure the safety of the patient in crisis. We will provide the necessary treatment plans, medication and referrals for ongoing care.
Our Services
Patients who arrive at any of the three Montefiore Einstein emergency departments with acute psychiatric issues are first medically cleared and then connected with expert psychiatric services for evaluation. Psychiatry teams work in close collaboration with emergency department medical staff. Our highly trained specialists include psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) and nursing staff, all available 24 hours a day to provide emergent evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and referrals for patients of all ages. The Moses Campus has a specialized psychiatric suite in the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein (CHAM) and an adult psychiatric observation suite (POS).
Patients presenting in potential psychiatric crises (such as suicidal ideation, severe anxiety, psychosis or aggressive behavior) will undergo a comprehensive evaluation to determine the severity of the patient’s mental state. This assessment will determine the immediate risk of self-harm or violence and whether the patient requires outpatient care, medication, inpatient psychiatric treatment or other mental health interventions. Our team will reach a diagnosis and develop an individualized treatment plan, including therapy, collaboration with medical services, referrals, medication adjustments and plans for ongoing follow-up.

Our programs are equipped to provide behavioral health services in person or via our Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant telehealth platform. Most insurance providers offer coverage for our services—please call to inquire. Additionally, multilingual or interpreter services may be available.
