Over 100 Years of Exceptional Service & Care
Montefiore Einstein has been at the forefront of innovation in ophthalmic care, education and research for over a century. As a global leader in eye care, our Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is one of the most comprehensive programs in the nation and among the largest in New York State, bringing together world-renowned experts across every subspecialty of ophthalmology to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care. Our physician-scientists have shaped modern vision care, from co-inventing the Trabectome®, the first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared device for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, to contributing to the development of Eylea® (aflibercept), the first FDA-approved pharmacologic treatment for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in preterm infants, and Macugen® (pegaptanib), the first FDA-approved injectable for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). We are an international referral site for the most complex and rare eye conditions, with our Ocular Oncology Program fully integrated with Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the elite 1% of National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S.
From pioneering minimally invasive eye surgery and advancing corneal transplantation and refractive surgery to transforming care for macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease, we are dedicated to raising the standard of ophthalmic care for patients of all ages. Using the most advanced diagnostics and leading-edge treatments, we provide comprehensive, personalized care for the full range of adult and pediatric eye conditions, from routine vision care to highly specialized medical, laser and surgical interventions. Above all, we are committed to delivering the highest quality, patient-centered care to preserve, restore and enhance vision, prevent vision loss and improve quality of life.
