We Performed the First Successful Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) Operation.
A Complete Range of Comprehensive Cardiothoracic & Vascular Care
At Montefiore Einstein, built on a century of innovating care, we combine world-renowned surgical expertise, with the most advanced surgical techniques, such as robotic surgery, durable and short term mechanical circulatory support, to save lives. Combining evidence-based treatment with the latest state-of-the-art technology and scientific research, our collaborative multidisciplinary team of world-renowned experts provide the latest surgical treatment options throughout the region, covering New York City, Westchester, and our newest location in Greenwich, CT. We pioneered the first use of artificial chords for mitral valve repair and performed the world’s first successful coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) operation, innovations that have saved countless lives around the world. As one of the leading destinations for cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, we are at the forefront of the surgical treatment for advanced heart failure, minimally invasive surgical approaches, as well as complex aortic interventions, thoracic and vascular surgery.
We Pioneered the First Use of Artificial Chords for Mitral Valve Repair
Leaders in the Science of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery
We are actively developing new cardiothoracic and vascular surgical treatments including those that use the most minimally invasive techniques to reduce recovery time. We lead the way with over a century of research breakthroughs and have developed many of the latest surgical techniques used such as being one of the first in the nation to perform robotic heart surgery.
We are spearheading clinical trials exploring promising new surgical techniques and therapies with notable NIH-funded grants, which have resulted in several publications in the highest impact factor journals and led to paradigm shifts in the way we practice cardiothoracic and vascular surgery.
State-of-the-Art Technology & Surgery
Our multidisciplinary team of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, cardiologists, and cardiac imaging specialists use the most advanced technology to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. Montefiore Einstein Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Department Chairman, Robert E. Michler, MD was among the first surgeons in the United States to develop robotic heart surgery. His work expedited FDA approval of robotic heart surgery for mitral valve repair and coronary artery bypass surgery. Our robotic and minimally invasive heart surgery program, led by Joseph DeRose, MD, is now one of the busiest in the tri-state area.
