Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center creates a personalized cancer care journey for each patient. This considers a wide range of variables beyond the type of cancer and its stage, such as additional circumstances that can affect a patient’s chance for a positive outcome—age, medical conditions, emotional concerns or lack of support from family or friends. As a result, no two pathways are ever alike.
Your treatment plan may include one or a combination of ground-breaking therapies. The treatments your team recommends depend on many factors, including these:
- The type of cancer you have
- Your diagnostic test results
- Cancer staging results

Cancer Treatments We Offer
Our specialists provide a treatment plan designed for you that’s aimed at targeting your cancer in the most effective way. As a full-service health institute, we have the resources to provide care and support in all areas of treatment. Your care plan may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone and precision therapy or even cellular therapies.
Bone marrow transplant and cellular therapies helps your body eliminate cancer cells using your immune system. Bone marrow transplants restores your body to make healthy platelets and red and white blood cells. Fresh donor cells may also be strong enough to destroy the cancer cells in your body. An approach called CAR T-cell therapy reprograms your immune cells to destroy specific cancer cells. Stem cell therapy (regenerative medicine) is a new form of treatment that uses “blank slate” stem cells to replace and repair cells that cancer has damaged.
Chemotherapy is a form of treatment that uses drugs to stop the growth of cancer cells. Depending on your diagnosis, we may recommend chemotherapy that you take by mouth or by direct infusion into the bloodstream.
Some types of cancer, such as breast, prostate and ovarian cancers, are activated by certain hormones. Hormone therapy adjusts your hormone levels to stop cancer cells from growing.
Immunotherapy is a form of treatment that powers up your immune system. Immunotherapy medicines made from substances in the body or in the lab target and turn on specific T-cells. The T-cells then attack tumor cells and fight off cancer.
Precision medicine, also known as targeted therapy, involves medicines that pinpoint specific molecules in cancer cells that have enabled them to grow and stay alive. This approach targets the tumor itself and is less harmful to healthy cells. Some types of precision medicine also attack the blood vessels that feed a tumor, limiting its growth and spread.
Radiation therapy uses high-energy beams like X-rays to damage the DNA of cancer cells. There are many methods to target radiation at cancer cells, When the DNA is damaged, it stops or slows the growth of the tumor.
Regional therapy uses chemotherapy or radiation therapy to target organs or areas of the body with tumors. We can spare healthy tissue and potentially reduce complications and side effects by delivering these therapies directly to the tumor.
Our surgical oncologists, who are among some of the best in the nation, use innovative and minimally invasive techniques to provide you with the best possible cancer care. Our state-of-the-art robotics technology makes us uniquely equipped to tackle even the most difficult and delicate surgical procedures, which generally lead to less pain or scarring and faster recovery. We also offer reconstructive surgery after cancer treatment, with sophisticated procedures that help you get back to looking and feeling like yourself, faster.
When appropriate, we combine surgery with radiation to treat your cancer and improve your outcome. We use intraoperative radiation therapy to deliver radiation during surgery, which may lessen the number of treatment visits you need later, and may prevent the need for future cancer surgeries.
