Programs and Services
The Staff and Alumni Association provides programs, services, and support to the medical staff and alumni of Montefiore Medical Center. Most programs offer discounted fees to current (i.e., dues-paying members) of the Association. A Career Night program is offered free of charge to all house officers.
Programs Offered on a Regular Basis
House Staff Career Night
An annual program is offered each fall to assist house officers with making the transition from residency to practice. Topics include: the current marketplace for physicians, job search strategies and interviewing skills, how to write an effective C.V., legal issues for the newly established physician, and practice opportunities through Montefiore Medical Center. An informal buffet dinner is offered after the program.
Regional Receptions
These informal receptions are usually scheduled at medical conferences most frequented by Montefiore staff and alumni. Sometimes co-sponsored with departments in the medical center, alumni who reside in the area are always welcome to attend.
Dinner Dance and Awards Night
This is our annual premier social event for medical center staff and alumni held in the spring. Attended by 300 physicians and their guests, as well as members of the senior management of the medical center, it is an opportunity to interact with colleagues, renew friendships and honor our own. Awards are presented to Staff and Alumni Honorees, Outstanding House Officers and the Moses Prize Winners.
Medical Symposia
A biennial conference is presented on a topic with broad-based appeal to members of the medical community. Members of the Association may register at a discounted fee. CME credit is provided by the Office of Continuing Medical Education of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Memorial Portrait Project
In May 1999, the Association established the Memorial Portrait Fund (MPF) to commission portraits of esteemed Montefiore physicians who have made significant contributions to their field of medicine and have brought distinction to the medical center. The initial choices were Drs. Harold Rikfin and Ira Rubin. Additional portraits have been commissione and all have been displayed in the Medical Library of the Tishman Learning Center.
