Miriam Schechter, MD, is Director, Medical Student Education at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is in general pediatrics, and she has multiple roles in the education and training of medical students and residents.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1985, Dr. Schechter attended New York University School of Medicine, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 1989. She pursued her postgraduate training at Mount Sinai Medical Center, completing her residency and chief residency in 1993.

Dr. Schechter’s research focuses on medical student education, particularly ways to enhance clinical reasoning, problem-based learning and communication skills in pediatric settings.

Dr. Schechter has been recognized with listings in Castle Connolly Top Doctors: New York Metro Area and New York Times Magazine’s New York Super Doctors. She is the recipient of multiple teaching awards from both the Department of Pediatrics and Albert Einstein College of Medicine and was inducted as a faculty member into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Society. In 2014, she received the Leonard Tow Humanism Award in recognition of emulating the qualities of humanism in medicine. Dr. Schechter is board certified and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics and the Academic Pediatrics Association.
