Hyun S. Kim, MD, is an attending physician, Interventional Pulmonology and Assistant Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. Dr. Kim provides comprehensive care for patients with advanced lung disease and thoracic cancer. His clinical focus includes palliative and therapeutic airway procedures, advanced imaging guided nodule biopsy, management of chronic pleural diseases, bronchoscopic lung volume reduction for obstructive lung diseases, and bronchoscopic therapies for in-situ lung cancer.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Kim later attended Rush University Medical College, earning his Doctor of Medicine in 2013. Dr. Kim completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, where he was appointed to serve as a chief medical resident with a focus on improving trainee education and revision of learning curriculum. He remained at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center to finish his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care. He then specialized further in the field of interventional pulmonology, continuing his postgraduate training with his subspecialty fellowship at the prestigious Harvard combined Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center-Massachusetts General Hospital program.

Dr. Kim has published research in the areas of airway obstructions, trachea-esophageal fistula, pleural diseases, tracheostomy outcomes in SARS CoV-2 respiratory failures, machine learning to predict clinical outcomes and lung cancer screening.

Dr. Kim is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care medicine. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians.
