Laurie E. Cohen, MD, is Chief, Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes and Professor, Pediatrics at Montefiore Einstein. An expert in growth disorders and short stature in children, Dr. Cohen also specializes in endocrine issues experienced by childhood cancer survivors, such as growth hormone deficiency and decreased fertility.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984, Dr. Cohen attended Cornell University Medical College, earning her Doctor of Medicine in 1998. She then pursued postgraduate training at Yale-New Haven Hospital with a residency in pediatrics from 1988 to 1991. In 1994, she completed her three-year fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Cohen’s research focuses on the impact of cancer therapies on growth and the endocrine system in children with central nervous system tumors, as well as other malignancies and bone marrow failure syndromes. Her research also examines determinants of growth and development. She has shared her work through peer-reviewed journals, books, abstracts, invited presentations, and national and international lectures. Dr. Cohen has also often served as a reviewer for many medical journals.

Dr. Cohen is board certified in pediatric endocrinology. She is a member of several professional societies including the Pediatric Endocrine Society, where she has had several leadership positions including as a Director-at-Large and is currently President Elect, and the Endocrine Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, and the Growth Hormone Research Society. She has been recognized several times in Boston Magazine Boston’s Top Doctors, as well as by Castle Connolly as a Top Doctor since 2008 and among Castle Connolly Exceptional Women in Medicine since 2019.
