Mery Elashvili, DO , is Director, Stroke Rehabilitation Service, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and Assistant Professor, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Montefiore Einstein. Her clinical focus centers on neurorehabilitation, with a particular interest in stroke rehabilitation.
After earning her Doctor of Medicine from Tbilisi State Medical School in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1977, Dr. Elashvili completed an internship at the same institution in 1978. She then completed her postgraduate training in neurology at the Institute for Physicians, USSR in 1979. Upon moving to the United States to continue her medical education, Dr. Elashvili earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996. She then completed an internship in internal medicine at Nassau University Medical Center in 1997, followed by a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency in 2000.
Building on her clinical focus, Dr. Elashvili’s research focuses on stroke rehabilitation. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has given national presentations and poster presentations.
Dr. Elashvili is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Medical Association and the New York Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
