About

Chavi Eve Karkowsky, MD, FACOG, is Medical Director and Clinical Liaison for Outpatient Obstetrics; and Associate Professor at Montefiore-Einstein, where she is a member of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialty division. Dr. Karkowsky has a clinical focus on maternal-fetal medicine and is dedicated to making prenatal care feel safe and accessible to all patients. To help pregnancy care be coordinated, safer and more patient-centered, Dr. Karkowsky fosters strong connections among Montefiore’s clinics and hospitals, and throughout the Bronx.

In 1998, Dr. Karkowsky received her Bachelor of Science at Yale University. After earning her Doctor of Medicine in 2003 at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, she pursued post-doctoral training in obstetrics and gynecology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, completing her internship and residency in 2007. In 2009, she undertook a three-year fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center.

Dr. Karkowsky’s research focus is on safety, public health, and equity of care. Her research employs novel statistical and other methods to assess issues such as racial discrepancies in care via telemedicine and the potential value of adding anxiety screening to prenatal care. She has shared her research through peer-reviewed journals, abstracts and poster presentations, as well as invited lectures.

Dr. Karkowsky is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with subspecialty certification in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). In 2014, she was awarded the ACOG Mentor Award in recognition of her mentoring contributions. Dr. Karkowsky also writes for the general public, having written for several publications including The Atlantic, Slate, and The Washington Post. She published her first book in 2020.
