About
William M. Buerger, PsyD, is Clinical Director, DBT-A Program at Montefiore Einstein and Instructor, Child Outpatient Psychiatry at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Buerger specializes in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and empirically supported trauma treatments. He also provides cognitive processing therapy (CPT) and prolonged-exposure (PE). Dr. Buerger has trained psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists and school personnel in these therapies and related principles.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Gettysburg College in 2011, Dr. Buerger earned his Doctor of Psychology at Rutgers University in 2018. He completed a predoctoral intervention at VA Connecticut Healthcare System the same year. Following this, Dr. Buerger completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Cognitive & Behavioral Consultants, LLP in 2019.
Dr. Buerger's research focuses on the active mechanisms, dissemination and adaptation of empirically supported treatments, particularly targeting trauma and suicidality. He has published articles and book chapters, and presented at national psychology conferences.
Dr. Buerger is board certified in DBT, PE and CPT. He is an active member of multiple professional organizations, including the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), the International Society for the Improvement and Teaching of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (ISITDBT) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
