Peter Dicpinigaitis, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and an attending physician in the Division of Critical Care Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. In addition to his clinical focus in care of critically ill patients, Dr. Dicpinigaitis is also founder and director of the Montefiore Cough Center, one of the few specialty centers in the world dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of patients with chronic cough.

A graduate of New York University, Dr. Dicpinigaitis earned his Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry from the institution in 1983 followed by his Doctor of Medicine in 1987. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at New York University Medical Center in 1990, followed by his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1993.

Dr. Dicpinigaitis’ extensive research focuses on chronic cough, including its mechanisms, manifestations and treatment, and the development of new therapeutic agents. He has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, and has shared his work through book chapters, abstracts, posters and invited presentations. Dr. Dicpinigaitis is the founder and chairman of the biannual American Cough Conference. He has served on numerous editorial boards and is currently Editor-in-Chief of Lung.

Dr. Dicpinigaitis is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the American Thoracic Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
