Matthew S. Wieder, MD, is an attending physician, Retina Specialist, Assistant Professor, Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and Associate Director, Ophthalmology Residency Training Program at Montefiore Einstein. With subspecialty training in vitreoretinal surgery, Dr. Wieder specializes in the medical and surgical management of all disorders of the retina and vitreous.

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in engineering from The Cooper Union For The Advancement Of Science And Art, Dr. Wieder went on to complete his medical education at Einstein . He completed his internship year in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel prior to returning to the Bronx for his ophthalmology residency at Montefiore and Einstein where he served as chief resident in his final year. He then continued his training in vitreoretinal surgery for an additional two years at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.

Dr. Wieder’s research focuses on retinal detachment repair, diabetic retinopathy, sickle cell retinopathy and ophthalmology education. He has presented at many national conferences and published in top ophthalmology journals including JAMA Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Retina and the Journal of Academic Ophthalmology. Dr. Wieder has also served as a reviewer for the European Journal of Ophthalmology and was a contributor and reviewer for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s board review question bank.

Dr. Wieder is board certified and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists and the New York State Ophthalmological Society.
