About
Rafael González Alonso, MD, is an Attending Psychiatrist at Montefiore, as well as an Assistant Professor at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. González’ clinical interests include CL Psychiatry, Psychopharmacology, and Academic Psychiatry.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 2006, Dr. González Alonso continued his education at Universidad Central del Caribe where he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2010. After completing an internship in Internal Medicine, he proceeded with a Psychiatry residency at the Ponce School of Medicine-Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Puerto Rico in 2014, serving as its chief resident in his final year. Dr. González selected Montefiore for his yearlong fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine (CL Psychiatry), which he completed in 2015, while also completing a certificate in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He has multiple board certifications including Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine.
Dr. González is an active member of several professional societies including the Medical Society of the State of New York, the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, the American Psychiatry Association, and is a board member of the Society for Liaison Psychiatry.
