Dr. Maria Coco earned her medical degree from the University of Rome, Italy. She completed an Internal Medicine Degree at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center in Bronx, NY. She completed a renal fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center followed by a renal research fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center. She completed a masters program (MS) in Clinical Research Methods at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. Dr. Coco trained in Bone Biopsy methods in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Dr. Coco is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Nephrology.
Dr. Coco has mentored many fellows in the practice of Bone Biopsy, ensuring that the treatment of metabolic bone disease is based on evidence.

Research Focus
Dr. Coco’s main research interest is investigating metabolic bone disease in patients with renal disease and organ transplantation. Dr. Coco has investigated the effect of bone modulators or medications on improving bone dynamics and strength. She has collaborated with national and international forums to establish treatment guidelines.
